There have been some famous moments to occur at the iconic island green par-3 17th hole over the years on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. Tiger Woods’s “Better than Most” birdie putt at the 2001 Players Championship. Fred Couples’s hole-in-three back in 1999. Even Ryan Moore’s slam dunk from Thursday’s first round in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Well, more madness ensued on the 17th green during Sunday’s final round when both Eddie Pepperell and Jhonattan Vegas drained miraculous putts to vault themselves into contention down the stretch.

Pepperell was the first to create the magic at the 17th hole on Sunday, when the 28-year-old Englishman nailed a 50-foot putt to put himself into a tie for the lead at the Players Championship.

But the show wasn’t over. Vegas then topped Pepperell by sinking a 70-foot putt at the 17th hole, which goes down as the longest putt ever to be made on the island green. It also got him into a share of the lead.

Both Pepperell and Vegas finished with pars at the 18th to shoot six-under 66s and take the clubhouse lead, which stood until Jim Furyk made birdie on 18 to get in at 15 under.
