Previewing Round 2

Rory McIlroy and Tom Kim were the talk of the tournament before the CJ Cup began, thanks to Kim’s surprise appearance at McIlroy’s Wednesday press conference. And the Rory McIlroy-Tom Kim show continued on Thursday at the CJ Cup.

Both players — one a four-time major winner and this week’s defending champion, and the other a rising star in the midst of a breakthrough run — came out hot in the opening round at Congaree, shooting matching five-under 66s while playing in the same group.

The impressive performances put the pair near the top of the leaderboard, one shot short of early co-leaders Gary Woodland and Trey Mullinax.
