Evian Championship leaderboard: Who’s leading after Round 2 

“It’s been a while since you had a major win,” the reporter started. “Has that been on your mind trying to get major No. 2?” How could it not be? It’s been six long years since Brooke Henderson won the Women’s PGA Championship, and then she opened up this week’s Evian Championship with a sparkling 64. Then again, it didn’t show up in her play on Friday. Or her words. 

Keep all that up, and, well, she won’t be asked about the drought again. 

“Yeah, it would be amazing to get my second major championship, and hopefully I get a few more before my career is over,” Henderson said. “But, yeah, I feel like this is a great position after two days, and it’s only half over, so see what happens.”

Here, then, are three things you need to know after second-round play at Evian Resort Golf Club in France.

Brooke Henderson leads by three shots 

After her first-round seven-under 64, Henderson shot a second-round 64. After a first round with just one bogey, she put together a second round with just one bogey. And after 36 holes, she leads by three over Nelly Korda, and by five over Sei Young Kim and So Yeon Ryu. 

“You know, it feels really nice to get off to a fast start in a major championship,” said Henderson, who’s at 14-under overall. “Feels like it’s been a while. To get it this far under par is really awesome.

“And I feel like I’m hitting the ball really well, which is nice. Making some putts. So two solid days, and I’m just really looking forward to the weekend.”

Nelly Korda is in second 

Two shots behind Henderson is Korda, who is playing just her fifth tournament since undergoing blood clot surgery. Korda played her first 10 holes at even par, then went on a tear from there, recording three birdies and an eagle for a 67. 

“Honestly, they were kind of stress-free pars, and finally got one going on 11 and kind of kick-started my day a little,” she said. 

Five back of Henderson are Kim, who shot a 65, and Ryu, who shot a 66. 

World No. 1 Jin Young Ko is seven back 

Among other players, world No. 1 Jin Young Ko and Lydia Ko are each seven back of the lead after 69s; No. 2 Minjee Lee, after a 69, is 11 back; and No. 5 Atthaya Thitikul is six back after a 66. 

Evian first-round leader Ayaka Furue shot a 72 after her opening 63.
