Justin Thomas was happy Tuesday night. And hurting Monday night.
The former came via the win by his team, the Atlanta Drive GC, in the first championship series of TGL, the simulator-based league founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy — while the latter arrived thanks to Billy Horschel during the first match in the best-of-three finals. Who did Horschel’s right hand connect with after a key putt at SoFi Center in Florida? Thomas’. Who did Horschel celebrate with after Atlanta won the match? Thomas.
Afterward, a reporter wondered where Thomas would rank a Horschel high-five on the pain-tolerance scale.
Said Thomas: “I was going to say depends on how you’re ranking it, but the pain tolerance, it was up there. I’ve had some celebrations where I’ve been on the blacking-out side like he was where you don’t remember and you’re just kind of hitting whatever is in sight. But it’s definitely way more fun when you’re on that side versus the receiver of the high-five.”
Said Horschel: “I do not remember high-fiving JT. I remember seeing PC [Patrick Cantlay]. Like, I need to be easy, can’t go at him full speed. …
Said Thomas: “But I was a punching bag.”
Said Horschel: “I didn’t see JT.”
