The second major of the year, the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla, is about to begin, and we’re picking a player who has never finished outside the top 10 at a PGA as our long shot. Here’s our long-shot pick, the PGA Championship odds, betting favorites and everything else you need to know.
PGA Championship odds: Long-shot bet
For this week’s major battle at Valhalla, we’re picking Will Zalatoris as our long shot to beat the odds and win the Wanamaker. Zalatoris comes into the week with +6000 odds-to-win.
It wasn’t long ago that Zalatoris was one of the brightest up-and-coming stars on the PGA Tour. Look no further than his performances in the PGA Championship. In two career appearances, Zalatoris finished T8 in 2021 and runner-up in 2022 after losing in a playoff.
But an injury forced him to have back surgery in April 2023, and he missed the rest of the season while recovering, including the 2023 PGA Championship.
Now, Zalatoris is back and his game looks good. In 11 starts in 2024, he has three top-10s, among them a T2 at the Genesis Invitational and a T9 at the Masters.
His last three finishes (T44, MC, T60) are cause for alarm, but we’re confident he’ll rise to the occasion on the major stage.
If you put $10 on Zalatoris to make a major breakthrough and he comes through, you’ll win $600. For insurance, consider placing additional small bets on Zalatoris to finish top 10 and top 20.
Looking for more long-shot bets for the PGA Championship? This week’s honorable mentions are Sahith Theegala (+6600) and Jason Day (+5500).
PGA Championship odds: The favorites
It looks like Scottie Scheffler will be in the field at Valhalla, which means he’s automatically the prohibitive favorite, to the tune of +450 odds-to-win.
