The PGA Tour heads back to the mainland this week for the 2022 American Express in La Quinta, Calif. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the tournament.

American Express preview

Patrick Cantlay was already a proven winner before 2021, but last year he took a leap into super stardom. He doubled his career PGA Tour win total with victories at three big events: the Memorial Tournament, the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship, the latter of which earned him the 2021 FedEx Cup title and PGA Tour Player of the Year honors. Cantlay got 2022 off to a solid start too, going 26 under at the Tournament of Champions for a fourth-place finish.

Cantlay has some unfinished business to tend to at the American Express this week. At last year’s event, he shot an incredible 11-under 61 in the final round, only to come up one shot short of winner Si Woo Kim. Other than Kim, Cantlay’s chief competition this week, and the only player with betters odds to win, will be Jon Rahm. The World No. 1 did even better than Cantlay at Kapalua, finishing at 33 under, one shot short of winner Cameron Smith.
