The LPGA Tour’s season concludes this weekend with the CME Group Tour Championship, and it’s sure to be an action-packed four days. Here’s what you need to know.
Previewing the CME Group Tour Championship
The biggest storyline this week in Naples, Fla., will be the crowning of the Rolex Player of the Year, and it’s become a two-horse race for the hardware. World No. 1 Nelly Korda is the favorite to take the crown come Sunday, but second-ranked Jin Young Ko is hot on her heels, just 10 points behind her in the standings.
“It’s crazy because usually I come to this event and I’m so far away from [winning the award],” Korda said. “The fact that I’m in contention just shows how well I’ve played this year and shows how much my hard work has been paying off.”
Each woman has won four times this season (although Korda also claimed a gold medal in Tokyo) as the two have been head and shoulders above the rest of the tour. Korda is looking to claim her first Player of the Year award, while Ko hopes to win the award for the second time in a row.
