Monday finish ahead as final round of Mayakoba Golf Classic suspended due to darkness

November 17, 2019

If Brendon Todd is going to make it back-to-back victories on the PGA Tour, he’ll have to wait until Monday morning.

The final round of a marathon Sunday at the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, was suspended at 6:11 p.m. ET due to darkness, and seven players will come back when play resumes at 7:30 a.m. on Monday.

Todd and Vaughn Taylor are tied for the lead at 20 under, and both hit their tee shots on the par-3 15th but elected to mark their balls on the green and will resume there on Monday.

Carlos Ortiz and Harris English are both one off the lead. Ortiz has only the par-4 18th remaining and English is on the 15th hole. Adam Long is also in contention at 18 under, and he’s through 15 holes. The next closest competitors are Joel Dahmen and Robby Shelton. Dahmen holds the clubhouse lead at 15 under, and Shelton is 15 under through 15 holes.

Sunday was a jam-packed day of golf after Thursday’s opening round was erased due to rain. The first round was pushed to Friday and the second round to Saturday, meaning the majority of the field finished 36 holes on Sunday. Players continued the fourth round in the threesomes they were grouped in to begin the third round on Sunday morning.

English held a one-shot lead entering the day, but Todd jumped ahead by one at the end of the third round. Todd won the Bermuda Championship two weeks ago and is looking to be the first back-to-back winner on Tour since Bryson DeChambeau in 2018.

The final round will be broadcast on Golf Channel on Monday.
