Brooks Koepka, Brooke Henderson win ESPY awards for best golfers

July 11, 2019

Brooks Koepka and Brooke Henderson took home ESPY honors on Wednesday night.

Koepka won an ESPY for Best Male Golfer, and Henderson won for Best Female Golfer.

Koepka, 29, beat out other nominees Justin Rose, Francesco Molinari and, most notably, Tiger Woods. Coming off a two-major 2018, Koepka won the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black and was second at both the Masters and U.S. Open. He’s among the favorites for next week’s Open Championship as well.

The 21-year-old Henderson has won twice in each of the last four years. Her latest victory came at the Meijer LPGA Classic in June, and that win, the ninth of her LPGA career, made her the all-time winningest Canadian in history. She beat out Sung Hyun Park, Ariya Jutanugarn and Jin-Young Ko for the ESPY.

Koepka was also nominated for Best Male Athlete of the Year, which was won by Milwaukee Bucks forward and 2019 NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
