Viewer’s Guide: 2019 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship tee times, TV schedule, purse

June 20, 2019

The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, the third major of the women’s golf season, is set to begin this week at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

The defending champion, Sung Hyun Park, is back in the event and looking for her first win on the LPGA Tour since the HSBC Women’s World Championship this past March. The No. 4 player in the world finished T12 at the U.S. Women’s Open last month and T39 during her last appearance on Tour at the Meijer LPGA Classic.

The No. 1 player in the world, Jin Young Ko, is going for her second major title this year after winning the ANA Inspiration this past April. She finished T16 at the U.S. Women’s Open last month and T23 last week at the Meijer LPGA Classic during her most recent start on Tour. Ko finished T11 at the 2018 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

Michelle Wie is back in action this week as she continues to fight off a lingering hand injury that has bothered her all season. Wie is making her first start since she missed the cut at the Lotte Championship this past April. In her most recent appearance in a major, Wie missed the cut at the ANA Inspiration back in April as well. The 2014 U.S. Women’s Open champion’s best finish in the event was a runner-up result in 2005, as she’s going for her first win on Tour since the 2018 HSBC Women’s World Championship.

World No. 2 Lexi Thompson will be looking to keep up her strong play of late this week at Hazeltine. She’s finished no worse than fourth in five of her last seven events, including a win earlier this month at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. She finished T2 at the Meijer LPGA Classic last week, and her most recent showing in a major event was a T2 at the U.S. Women’s Open last month. The 2014 ANA Inspiration winner’s best finish in the event was a third place result in 2015.

Lastly, Brooke Henderson comes into the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship after winning the Meijer LPGA Classic this past week. The 2016 Women’s PGA champion finished T39 at the U.S. Women’s Open last month.
