Will Zalatoris is a 24-year-old rookie who has found himself in a four-way tie for second place with 18 holes left to play in The 2021 Masters. He’s young, confident, talented, and he kind of looks like Happy Gilmore’s caddie at The Waterbury Open in the cult-classic 1996 movie starring Adam Sandler.

After further review, Zalatoris, with his lengthy blonde locks and youthful appearance, does kind of look like Happy Gilmore’s caddie (the actor’s real name is Jared Van Snellenberg).
With some self-awareness and a sense of humor, Zalatoris had a quote from the movie scene above stamped on his custom Titleist Vokey WedgeWorks lob wedge. He’s embracing the comparisons.
In a recent Instagram video by @titleist, filmed ahead of the WGC-Workday Championship, Zalatoris went through his entire equipment setup and shows off his custom Happy Gilmore wedge.
Aside from the funny wedge stamping, Zalatoris reveals a number of great nuggets about the clubs and shafts that he uses, and why.
Here are some of the highlights from Zalatoris’ “What’s in the Bag” video:
- He marks his Pro V1 golf ball with a “99” as ode to his athletic prowess in a football throwing game at Dave & Buster’s.
- He put his Titleist TSi3 driver in the bag a week before his T6 finish at the U.S. Open. He calls it the “best driver Titleist has ever made.”
- He’s a self-proclaimed “low spin” guy, so his TSi3 3-wood has 16.5 degrees of loft, instead of 15 degrees, to hit shots with more height.
- He goes back and forth between a hybrid and a driving iron depending on the course and conditions.
- He likes his T100 irons because they have slightly less offset and reduce the effect of flyer lies.
- He has a square leading edge on his 50- and 55-degree Vokey wedges, and he’s made two aces with his 55-degree sand wedge. He also has dogs named Luna and Kona, and their names are stamped on his wedges.
