We’ve said it before, and here it comes again: If you don’t have at least one hybrid in your bag right now (and we’d recommend two), you’re missing out. Not only do these clubs offer incredible utility from the tee, fairway and various tough lies, they’re also available in a multitude of styles.
So whether you prefer hybrids that look like irons, woods or something in between, options abound. Start with the flagship hybrid offerings from Callaway, Srixon and TaylorMade. These are as good as utility clubs get.
Rogue X hybrids are aimed at players seeking the ultimate in distance and forgiveness, with larger, deeper clubheads, lighter overall weights and stronger lofts.
A more wood-like appearance with a deep clubhead works for players who want more confidence at address. And for those who think the stronger lofts might yield lower launch and flight, an ultra-low CG location ensures just the opposite. Rogue X hybrids are available in 18°, 20°, 23°, 26°, 29° and 32° models.
The Z U85 utility iron features a forged construction similar to the Z 585 irons, but it’s built with a hollow clubhead and high-strength face insert that allows the club to behave more like a wood. What this means is a higher launch, higher flight and more distance for a wide variety of players. Because the Z U85 features a more iron-like design, it can very easily be blended with the other clubs in your set. Lofts available include 18°, 20°, 23°, 26° and 29°.
The GAPR MID is one of three GAPR models, along with the LO and the HIGH. With a CG that’s placed very low and forward for a mid-high flight that can work for any skill level, it will most likely appeal to the widest variety of players. The clubhead and sole of the MID is also medium-wide for more playability and less dig. It delivers wood-like distance, but the clubface shape is predominantly iron-like. The MID is available in 18°, 21° and 24° models.
