Harold Varner III signs metalwoods, putter deal with Callaway

Callaway's deal with Harold Varner III is for the metalwoods, putter and staff bag.

New equipment deals tend to come with a built-in learning curve as signees get acclimated to different gear. In Harold Varner III’s case, he won’t have to worry about transitioning into the latest and greatest after inking a metalwoods, putter and staff bag deal with Callaway Golf that was officially announced on Tuesday at the Memorial Tournament.

Varner was recently seen at the PGA Championship with the brand’s staff bag, Great Big Bertha driver, Epic Flash Sub Zero 3-wood and Odyssey Rossie putter.

“I’m coming to Callaway because for me, the performance is absolutely the best,” Varner said. “They really set the standard when it comes to drivers and putters, and I’ve had a great experience so far working with their Tour team to get my clubs dialed in. The technology that they put into their equipment is unbelievable, and I’m excited to see what we can do for the rest of the year, and going forward.”

Varner has logged seven top-25 finishes in 18 starts this season and recently played in the final group at the PGA Championship with Brooks Koepka before a final-round 81 knocked him out of contention. Varner will continue to wear Jordan Brand apparel — he’s done so since the beginning of 2018 — after dropping Cleveland/Srixon (his previous equipment sponsor) from the hat at the end of 2017.

The move is an intriguing one for Callaway, who has historically signed players to full staff deals. Metalwoods and putters continue to be two of the company’s biggest areas of growth in the professional arena, with Callaway ranking tops in usage and wins across “major worldwide tours” in 2019.
