Srixon
For those who want more distance in their game, Srixon’s newest golf ball just might be the ticket.
The company is introducing the Q-Star Ultispeed, its first new golf ball in North America since 2017, aimed specifically at golfers who play regular flex shafts.
“The new Q-Star Ultispeed has taken years of research and innovation,” said Srixon Vice President of Business Planning Brian Schielke in a release. “We tested hundreds of materials to find the right balance of feel and performance to maximize what this golf ball could do. The result is a truly dynamic option that gives players those extra yards they’re looking for tee-to-green, along with great feel and control.”
Q-Star Ultispeed is a three-piece golf ball originally released to the Japanese market that has undergone what the company describes as radical changes from its predecessors.
The ball originally started as an ultra-firm, non-conforming prototype with a compression of 115, which basically would have made it like playing with a rock. But over time, Srixon altered the design of the ball to retain the fast speeds of a firm one, but soften the feel to better appeal to slower speed golfers.
Q-Star Ultispeed also has a new upgraded FastLayer Core that was developed to minimize variations of firmness that occur in other distance golf balls.
Srixon uses a soft-to-firm approach to their cores which they say helps boost speed off the clubface on all swings. The ball also has a specifically designed 338-dimple pattern to enhance aerodynamics and reduce drag for more distance.
