What’s the odd-shaped item attached to Brooks Koepka’s Nike golf shoes?
Brooks Koepka has been in the news a lot this season. Most of it’s for his stellar play on the course and pointed comments about slow play. Off the course, there’s Koepka’s appearance in ESPN’s Body Issue — if you’re into that sort of thing.
And then we have the four-time major winner’s Nike shoes. More specifically, the odd-shaped item attached to the laces of the Off-White x Nike Air Max 90’s Koepka was sporting on Thursday at East Lake.
Sneakerheads already know the Off-White is a hot commodity. The collaboration between Nike and Virgil Abloh’s Off-White has reimagined some of the Swoosh’s most popular shoes in a subdued color palette, including the Air Max 90. One of the most recognizable items on the Off-White is a zip-tie attached to the laces. It has no performance value, making it a glorified status symbol.
While the zip-tie looks cumbersome if you’re working out in the shoes, it’s apparently a thing to leave it on.

Koepka shot 67 to tie for the lead after the first day of the Tour Championship, so the zip-tie doesn’t seem to be impeding with his movement and swing. Plus, if it ups your street cred on the course, that’s never a bad thing.
