Over the course of the last year, our staff has added a ton of new things to our bags. In fact, for some of us, it’s the bag itself that’s new. Below, we recapped those gadget and gear updates, explained why we love them and, better yet, let you know where you can get them for yourself.
Ashley Mayo, editorial director: I added a JBL Flip 4 speaker to my bag early in the season and I love it. It’s compact and lightweight and it has a carabiner integrated into it so that I can easily clip it onto anything. It also turns on and pairs to my phone seamlessly and quickly and holds its charge for multiple rounds.

Zephyr Melton, assistant editor: I’m normally one to lighten the load of my bag throughout the season by discarding unneeded items, but this year I made one important addition — a range finder. I used to be an old-fashioned, do-it-by-hand calculator of yardages, but now I can get every yardage I need in an instant. Consider me spoiled — I don’t think I’ll ever be able to play without one again.

Dylan Dethier, senior writer: In 2021, I added a new bag itself! My old one had holes in the bottom, so it was time for an upgrade. This stand-less Ping bag has very comfy straps that make it really easy to carry.

Tim Reilly, director of social and commerce: The best thing that happened to my bag this year is my SunMountain Pathfinder push cart. To me, there is nothing better than taking a twilight stroll after work, and a push cart is the best way to get around on the course. Don’t let some Sunday Bag purist tell you otherwise.

Emily Haas, project analyst: This was a BIGGGG year for my golf bag. I upgraded every single club after getting fitted for new clubs at our sister company True Spec. I think the biggest difference-makers are my new Miura CB-301s. I have a 4-iron through gap wedge, and my irons have never been more dialed (just ask Zephyr).

Claire Rogers, social media manager: I added my old clubs to a new bag this year. After years of carrying the same old bag, I finally upgraded to Stitch Golf’s SL2 bag. Not only is it lightweight and sleek, it’s water-resistant and very unique. I got the bag in light blue and it’s perfect for walking.

Josh Berhow, managing editor: My putting, specifically my lag putting, was really hurting my game, but after a fitting with our friends at GOLFTEC I found out my alignment was way off. Turns out a switch to a putter with less offset immediately helped, and the Odyssey Ten S was what I ended up buying. I love the sleek black finish, the weight is perfect and the bold white line helps me get my putts started on the right track. My putting has improved significantly and this won’t leave my golf bag anytime soon.

James Colgan, assistant editor: I added a brand-spanking-new set of irons to my bag for the first time in my life, which were custom fitted for me by our friends at True Spec. Also — a bottle opener, a travel bottle of Tylenol (for those aches and pains!), a bottle of blister spray AND a valuables pouch to hold all those goodies!
