On Tuesday, launch monitor and golf simulation technology company Foresight Sports introduced an innovative new product offering: the Foresight Sports GC3S and LINK-Enabled Technology bundle, which pairs launch monitor data with a Bushnell laser rangefinder to offer a first-of-its-kind course management platform. In short, the devices combine to act as a digital caddie to offer club recommendations tailored to a user’s capabilities based on shot data collected by the launch monitor.
How does it work? It starts with the launch monitor. Users can activate the technology by performing a “MyBag” assessment using the launch monitor and Foresight app. On a range or simulator, the user must hit at least three shots with each club to create a baseline for performance and tendencies. The data for each club is then logged in the Foresight app. Then, the Bushnell app can incorporate the MyBag data from the Foresight app to sync with the Bushnell rangefinder. Then, when the user is faced with a shot of a certain distance on the course, they will receive two club recommendations based on the rangefinder’s measured yardage.
“This is an eye-opening technological advancement for amateur golfers who don’t have regular access to caddies that can deliver expert course management advice,” said Foresight Sports and Bushnell Golf Head of Commercial, Chris Watters, in a press release. “Everyone who’s used a laser rangefinder knows how to get a number, but they don’t always know how to use that information because that data has not been tailored to their actual performance, and knowing yardage to the pin is just one part of the club selection equation. LINK-Enabled technology takes guesswork and bravado out of choosing a club, building confidence by transforming a ranged distance into a club recommendation.”
The secrets behind Foresight Sports’ unprecedented success
In addition to club recommendations, the technology also offers course management advice, including personalized “play as” distances, which utilize collected user data instead of generic models; “today’s distances,” which take into account real-time conditions; and club dispersion patterns, which enables users to view accuracy patterns overlaid on course maps.
The Foresight Sports GC3S, which includes the Bushnell Golf Pro X3 LINK laser rangefinder, is available now for $3,799. The price includes a $499 annual software subscription, which includes ball data (launch angle, side angle, ball speed, total spin, carry, side spin/spin axis) and club data (club head speed, smash factor, club path, angle of attack) for the first year of use, plus FSX Play simulator software and FSX Pro performance analysis software.
The Foresight Sports GC3 launch monitor, which is available for $6,999, includes everything you get with the GC3S, as well as a sling bag, a 2-year warranty, and one year of access to GSPro (a golf simulation platform). The annual subscription required for the Foresight Sports simulation and performance software is included with the GC3 as a license rather than a yearly subscription as with the GC3S.
