Our take: For all its high-tech features, the D9 drew praise in GOLF’s ClubTest for its traditional look and feel. “Nice and soft off the face,” one tester remarked. Another noted the classic oomph at impact, which “sounded like what you want a driver to sound like.” The club’s performance proved satisfying, too, (“higher ball flight, without ballooning”), powered by a thin and lively face that’s built to maximize ball speed, even on off-center hits.

The details: Using advanced computer modeling, Wilson sorted through hundreds of design variations to arrive at its most forward-thinking line of clubs to date. Don’t picture a traditional sweet spot. The D9 features a “peak kinetic response club face,” or PKR, which divides the face into zones of varying thickness, each one fine-tuned for optimal performance. A lightweight, composite crown dampens vibrations and reduces twisting, further enhancing precision, feel and power.
