So you just got fit for new golf clubs, but the process doesn’t really end there.
Yes, you’ll then order those golf clubs, but there’s more to it than that.
Johnny Wunder just got to experience this first hand after getting fit for Vokey’s new SM11 wedges by Tour Rep Aaron Dill.
Wunder returned to the Titleist Performance Institute after his intial fitting with Dill to take his new wedges and tweak them to get proper gapping.
On this week’s episode of GOLF’s Fully Equipped, Wunder and Morrow talked about how the fitting experience doesn’t really end with the fitting and how you should be able to go back to the fitter to make sure everything is dialed like Wunder did.

“I would say probably 65, 70 percent confident that you weren’t going to have to change anything about the setup of those wedges, like whether it was tweaking lofts and lies or whatever,” Morrow said. “And then you came out of that gapping session and you said, you’re like, dude, that was great. Like you’re like, I had such a good time. I felt like I just unlocked every bit of confidence I have out of that set of wedges. And I think that actually might be like a bigger point to bring up too — something we haven’t talked about a ton — is there are stages to club fitting.”
As Morrow pointed out, working with your fitter once you actually have the clubs is crucial — you need to make sure everything is how it’s supposed to be.
“When you get with a good club fitter, first off, you should try to find a club fitter that you trust to continue to visit,” Morrow added. “Whether your frequency is once a year, every couple of years, once every six months, whatever it is, finding a fitter that you trust with your game is huge because you can do things like revisit them and say, ‘Hey, we got fit for these, but now can you gap them for me so that I still know that you’re OK with what I’m playing?'”
Not only will that ensure that what your fitter spec’d you is what you got, but getting that extra bit of validation is only going to inspire confidence. All good fitters should be happy to do this because it builds trust between you, the customer, and them that can lead to a better relationship down the road.
