Titleist debuts new Scotty Cameron Phantom putter models: What you need to know

Titleist has announced an extension of the Scotty Cameron Phantom putter line with five new configurations set to hit the market for pre-sale later this month.

The Scotty Cameron Phantom 5.2 and Phantom 7.2 models will join the mallet family, while the Phantom 5, Phantom 11 and Phantom 11 Long Design models will be available in left-handed setups for the first time. 

New Phantom designs

The all-new Phantom 5.2 and Phantom 7.2 will maintain the wingback mallet head shape of their predecessors and incorporate an I-beam-style plumbing neck. The Phantom 5.2 is a compact mallet that features refined wing angles and sight dot alignment, while the Phantom 7.2 features longer wings and dual-purpose “rail” alignment.

“This gives the exact same neck and the exact same toe flow as a Newport 2,” said founder and master craftsman Scotty Cameron. “If I like a Newport 2, but I want a little more forgiving, a little more MOI, this is a perfect intro into the mallet world.”

Titleist staffers like Justin Thomas, Cameron Young and Davis Riley helped inform the updated Phantom designs. When the plumbing-neck setup was well-received with Tour players because it’s helpful on alignment, the update was incorporated into the new Phantom models.

“The combination of the plumbing neck and our Phantom mallet shapes has become increasingly popular on tour, and we’ve learned a lot about its benefits from listening to players,” said Titleist senior director of putter R&D Austie Rollinson in a press release. “It’s a great setup for players coming from a blade into a mallet, or really for any golfer looking for blade-like feel and alignment with the benefits of a larger head.”

Left-handed models

The addition of three existing Phantom models into left-handed setups contributes to a more robust model offering for left-handed players.

“We wanted to add more left-handed putters to our lineup,” Cameron said. “We felt that the Phantom 5, 11 and 11 Long Design models gave our left-handed golfers a range of options with three unique setups.”

Price and availability

The new Scotty Cameron Phantom 5.2, 7.2 and left-handed Phantom 5, 11 and 11 Long Design putters will be available for pre-sale on Jan. 29 and in golf shops worldwide beginning Feb. 14. They will retail at $449, and at $499 for the long design. You can learn more here.
