Call it a coincidence.
Call it strange.
Call it whatever. But Ben Griffin says he’s been calling his shots this week.
“It’s kind of funny,” he said Saturday. “I didn’t see Kira [Golf Channel reporter Kira K. Dixon] this morning, but yesterday, I told her I was going to shoot 63, and in my mind, I had 66 today. I don’t know why, but 66 came to my mind, and I ended up doing it again.”
Wild, right? Let’s break this down. Most notably, that 63 on Friday at the Country Club of Jackson, followed by the 66 on Saturday, gives him a three-shot lead through 54 holes at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Griffin is at 20-under overall, while Carl Yuan is at 17-under, and three golfers are at 16-under.
But there’s maybe a bigger question.
Why isn’t Griffin thinking of a 59? Or a 55? Or shoot, an 18?
Maybe these powers can’t be controlled. At the least, someone needs to check in with him on Sunday, when he goes for his first PGA Tour win.
With that, here are the complete round-four pairings for Sunday. Golf Channel coverage starts at 4 p.m. ET.
