Tiger Woods announced on Wednesday that he and son Charlie are in the field for the 2021 PNC Championship, which begins December 18 in Florida. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the tournament.
PNC Championship preview
So much for a quiet offseason. Suddenly, one of the most-anticipated golf tournaments of the year is a 36-hole, limited-field TV event featuring pros and their families days before Christmas. The 2021 PNC Championship got a nuclear-level jolt when Woods officially joined the fray. Tiger and Charlie’s debut in the PNC last year drew a lot of attention, as it was the first time we saw Charlie swing away in competition with cameras rolling. But that pales in comparison to the interest in this year’s tournament.
That’s because this will be the first time we see Tiger Woods play real golf since his devastating car accident in February. And it comes just weeks after we learned Woods was even able to swing a golf club, via a viral swing video he posted to Twitter.
At last week’s Hero World Challenge, Tiger made his first public appearance since the accident, speaking to reporters for 45 minutes ahead of the tournament he hosts. Among other things, Woods revealed that for a time he didn’t know if he’d walk again. There was even a potential his injuries would force doctors to amputate his leg.
As for golf, Tiger seemed to tamp down that any idea that a return to pro golf was imminent. Though he did drop a clue that a “hit and giggle” type of event might work for him, few people thought it was possible we’d see Tiger in action again so soon.
Fortunately for everyone involved, especially golf fans at home, Tiger and Charlie Woods’ entire appearance in the PNC Championship will be televised live on Golf Channel and NBC, from Dec. 17-19. You can also stream the action online via Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service.
