It’s never too early to start analyzing Masters odds, but with the green jacket up for grabs in a little under a month, it’s time to start looking carefully at who Vegas sees as the real contenders.
As it stands now, Bryson DeChambeau is the favorite as he looks to claim his second consecutive major title. DeChambeau has been the most talked about man in golf since his romping of the field at Winged Foot, and oddsmakers like him to have similar success at Augusta. His 8/1 odds top golfodds.com’s current slate of favorites.
If DeChambeau is going to earn his first green jacket, he’ll have to break a trend of less-than-stellar play in the tournament. In his three starts at the Masters, he’s yet to finish inside the top 20, a T21 last season representing his best result. But that was a different DeChambeau — before the bulk-up and his latest attempt at revolutionaizing the game. This DeChambeau is more equipped to tackle the challenges that Augusta National presents.
Trailing DeChambeau is a trio of contenders in Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson, each seeking his first green jacket. McIlroy has experienced heartbreak at Augusta National in the past, while Johnson comes into the event after a runner-up performance last year. Rahm is looking to build off his strong performance the last two years, when he’s recorded back-to-back top 10s.
Brooks Koepka and Xander Schauffele round out the top five at 16/1 odds, while defending champion Tiger Woods comes in at 25/1 odds. If he hopes to repeat as champion, he’ll have to do it without the confidence of Vegas behind him.
