Pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau hits drive on range

Bryson DeChambeau hits drives on the range ahead of the 2020 RBC Heritage.

By now you have surely heard about the amazing inflatable Bryson DeChambeau. The PGA Tour star has been on a mission to gain weight and power for more than a year. Over the three-month layoff alone, Bryson claims he gained a whopping 20 lbs.

The purpose of his body transformation is simple; DeChambeau is trying to get as strong as possible to hit a golf ball as far as possible. Increased muscle mass and power lead to faster swing speeds, which lead to faster ball speeds and longer shots.

Hear those footsteps? That’s Bryson DeChambeau coming for the PGA Tour

In short, the plan has worked, at least so far (though Rickie Fowler sees some problems on the horizon for Bryson). DeChambeau led the field in driving distance at last week’s Charles Schwab Challenge with a 340.4 yard average.

But this week at the RBC Heritage, DeChambeau ran into one unique problem caused by his massively increased driving distance: he doesn’t fit on the range.

In a short video posted on Twitter by Tour swing coach and GOLF Top 100 Teacher Jonathan Yarwood, the five-time PGA Tour champion can be seen smashing drives on the range along with a few other players. The difference is that Bryson is hitting from a spot a full 20-30 yards behind his fellow Tour pros.

Yarwood explained in his tweet that Bryson’s drives fly so far now that he had to “move to the very back of the range or it’d be in someone’s kitchen 360 yards away. Unbelievably impressive to witness.”

Bryson’s swing is indeed, as Yarwood said, an unbelievably impressive thing to witness, though he’s swinging so fast, it’s honestly hard to see much of anything but a blur of movement.
