Beautiful Golf Hole of the Day: No. 9, Renaissance Club, Scotland

July 13, 2019

The Scottish Open is one of my favorite events on the golf calendar, a chance for American golf fans everywhere to catch a glimpse of the links golf experience a week before the Open Championship. This week, we’ve got a mouth-watering view of the Renaissance Golf Club in Scotland.

It was the 9th hole that caught my eye which overlooks the North Sea and is flanked by an old wall that features on multiple holes on the course.

The Renaissance Golf Club is about 23 miles northeast of Edinburgh — a 40-minute drive — and sits next door to the legendary Muirfield with North Berwick also nearby nearby.

Unlike some of the courses nearby, Renaissance is a new addition to the Firth of Forth coastline. The course was conceived in 2002 on a golf trip to Pinehurst, according to the website. The Duke of Hamilton’s representatives approached The Sarvadi Family about building the course. Six years later, the course opened, and this year, Renaissance hosted its first Scottish Open.

The 9th hole is a par 3 and is actually a new addition to the course, residing on a plot of coastline land that makes the stretch between the 8th and the 12th hole the “crowning jewel” of the club. But just because it’s pretty doesn’t mean it’s easy. It’s a stern test: The longest par-3 on the course at 218 yards that usually plays into wind, with the gust whipping off the North Sea.

Take a peek at the flyover below, and then check out a selection of pictures from No. 9. Ready to book your flight?
