Here’s how to take a romantic golf getaway to Silverado for less than $3K

September 27, 2019

If watching this week’s Safeway Open has you yearning to plan a golf trip to California’s wine country, the fall is a spectacular time to do it, when average temperatures remain in the mid-60s through November.

Silverado Resort has two golf courses onsite, and its location in the heart of Napa (hello, Cabernet!) makes it a super-appealing destination for a couples’ golf getaway. Here’s how to book your November weekend for less than $3K.

AIRFARE: ~$500

Unless you fly private into Napa’s local airstrip, there’s really no way to get super-close to wine country on a plane. SFO, about an hour south of Napa (barring traffic), is likely your best bet, though you can also fly into Sacramento or Oakland, if that’s preferable.

Flights for a November weekend from LAX can be purchased for as little as $107 each (price via Kayak), while flights from Chicago, the Northeast and the Southeast range from about $250 to $290 apiece.

Total airfare: ~$500 for two tickets

GROUND TRANSPORTATION: $161

A midsize car is all you need for a two-person weekend excursion, and Budget offers a Hyundai Elantra or similar for $161 (price via Kayak). Book it, Danno!

LODGING: $957

The Silverado Resort & Spa offers a pretty cool package if you really want to go golf-nuts during your stay. The Golfer’s Dream Package includes lodging and 18 holes of golf for you and your significant other each day during your stay, plus free golf after 2 p.m. on your arrival day, and unlimited use of the practice facility, range balls, and club storage. For the weekend I checked in November, that rate starts at $587/night.

If you want a more a la carte experience, you can get a good price on Expedia: $294/night at Silverado, plus a $25 resort fee, for a total of $957 for a three-night stay.

TOTAL SPEND: $661 + $957 = $1,618

GREEN FEES: $696

Golf at Silverado is not cheap, but alas, premium experiences rarely are. The North Course (which hosts the Tour) will set you back $189 per person, while the South is $159 per person. If you opt to visit late in November, the price drops pretty significantly, and you can save a couple hundred dollars between two people over two rounds.

TOTAL SPEND: $1,618 + $696 = $2,314

DINING: $650

Since you’re in Napa, you’ll want a robust dining budget for all those, uh, grapes, so give this breakdown a try:

Arrival dinner: $150

Golf course lunch 1: $50

Day 2 dinner: $150

Golf course lunch 2: $50

Day 3 dinner: $150

Miscellaneous breakfasts, snacks: $100

Total dining: $650

TOTAL SPEND: $2,314 + $650 = $2,964

And there you have it! A fabulous, three-night stay, two-round stay at Silverado Resort for less than $3K! Ready to book? Happy travels!
