Dumbarnie Links, Scotland’s newest links course, is slated to open in May — and it looks spectacular

September 7, 2019

Located just 20 minutes away from the famed home of golf in St. Andrews, Scotland, Dumbarnie Links is getting closer to making its grand debut.

Designed by former Ryder Cup player Clive Clark, Dumbarnie’s 345 acres of sandy links land has some seriously high-profile neighbors. You’ll be able to see both Muirfield and North Berwick from the course, as well as views of the Firth of Forth and Edinburgh. Fourteen of the course’s holes offer water views of Largo Bay and the estuary.

The enviable plot of land is part of the historic Balcarres Estate, which has been owned by Lord Anthony Balniel’s family since the 16th century.

“There was an air of uncertainty when my family was first approached about building a golf course on our land,” Lord Balniel said in a press release.  “Fast forward several years and we simply could not be more pleased. What Clive Clark and his team have done is nothing short of outstanding. I have been struck not only by the beauty of what has been created with the dune landscape significantly enhanced but also by the focus on the wildlife, plants and birds. It has been a joy to see the project unfold.”

Dumbarnie Links is slated to open for play on May 16, 2020. Can’t wait that long? Enjoy these spectacular course photos in the meantime.
