Nelly Korda in position for first LPGA career win, could also make history for a special reason

October 27, 2018

After firing a round of 3 under par (69) in the third round, Nelly Korda is in position for her first LPGA Tour win at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Taiwan Championship.

It’s a huge moment for Korda, a 20-year-old American, not only because of what it would mean for her career, but also for an important historical reason.

If Nelly manages to win on Sunday, she and big sister Jessica will become only the third set of sisters in LPGA history to win on Tour.

The first set of sisters to do it was the Sorenstam duo of Annika and Charlotta. Charlotta claimed her first and only LPGA victory at the Standard Register PING in 2000, while Annika, a Hall of Famer, won 10 major championships and 72 total LPGA events.

Earlier this year, the feat was matched by Thai sisters Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn, when Moriya won the 2018 HUGEL-JTBC LA Open in April. Ariya has a total of 10 LPGA victories, including two majors.

Now, a third set of sisters has a chance to join that rarefied air. While Jessica has amassed five LPGA wins over the span of her career, Nelly is playing in only her second full year on Tour.

Korda and and Wei-Ling Hsu share a two-shot lead heading into the final round.
