Here’s how spend a weekend at Hammock Beach (and play the Ocean Course!) for $1K

November 1, 2019

We’re still nearly two months away from the official start of winter, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t cool enough in some parts of the country to warrant a need for a warm-weather getaway. Florida offers the perfect escape — especially for people on the northeast, since it’s a relatively short flight and direct-flight options are abundant.

Hammock Beach, A Salamander Resort, in Palm Coast, Fla., is the perfect venue for a weekend escape. Not only was it recently named a Top 100 Resort by GOLF Magazine, it also boasts a Top 100 golf course you can play.

Located smack-dab in between the Jacksonville and Orlando airports, the only bummer is the approximate one-and-a-half-hour drive you’ll have to make from either airport to get there.

But once you do, ahhhhh, you can enjoy average daily high temperatures in the mid-70s through November. Here’s how you can enjoy a weekend at Hammock Beach for only $1,000.

AIRFARE: $175

Though Daytona Beach (DAB) is the closest airport to Hammock Beach and flying there would cut your drive down by half, it’s nearly impossible to get a direct flight from places like BOS or JFK, let alone LAX. I think your best bet is a flight into Orlando (MCO), because the November flights I checked were slightly cheaper than JAX, and because the MCO rental car center is right onsite, across the street from baggage claim. Gotta love those little conveniences!

From BOS, JFK and LAX, I found direct flights ranging from $107 to $232 round-trip (prices via Kayak) — a pretty great deal, especially on the lower end!

TOTAL AIRFARE: $175

RENTAL CAR: $50

Because Hammock Beach is kind of a trek from the airport, I recommend renting a car instead of Ubering, and there are plenty of mid-size sedan and SUV options to choose from at around $100 for the weekend on Kayak. Split in half, that’s only $50 each, and even less if you have more travel companions.

TOTAL SPEND: $175 + $50 = $225

LODGING AND GREEN FEES: $594.49

With Hammock Beach Resort’s “Just Golf” package, you and your companion can play both of the resort’s courses and enjoy two nights of accommodation in a resort-view two-bedroom condo for a total price of $1,188.98, which is inclusive of taxes and fees. That’s only $594.49 each!

In case you need more convincing, the Jack Nicklaus-designed Ocean Course is one of GOLF’s Top 100 Courses You Can Play, and just completed a meticulous restoration of every tee box, bunker, fairway, green and even the rough. Six holes play directly on the Atlantic Ocean.

The Tom Watson-designed Conservatory Course is no slouch as a second-day option, and was named as one of GOLF’s Best Courses You Can Play in Florida back in 2016.

TOTAL SPEND: $225 + $594.49 = $819.49

DINING: $180

As I always say, extravagant dining can be a real budget-buster, so try this suggested outline to stay reasonable:

Day 1 breakfast: $15
Day 1 golf course lunch: $30
Day 1 dinner: $45
Day 2 breakfast: $15
Day 2 golf course lunch: $30
Day 2 dinner: $45

Total dining spend: $180

TOTAL SPEND: $819.49 + $180 = $999.49

And there you have it! Two nights and two rounds at a fabulous Top 100 resort for under $1K! Ready to book? Happy travels!
