Here are 11 mind-blowing stats from the 2017-18 PGA Tour season

October 8, 2018

The 2018-19 PGA Tour season kicked off last week at the Safeway Open in Napa, California, with Kevin Tway winning his first-ever PGA Tour title. With the previous season now in the rearview mirror, there’s no better time to look back at some of the craziest statistics from the season that was.

1. Paul Casey went 206 consecutive holes without a three-putt. The streak spanned 20 events, and was the longest on Tour.

2. Jordan Spieth jarred the longest putt, a 90-footer on the fifth hole during the second round of the Sony Open last January.

3. Dustin Johnson and Hudson Swafford tied for the longest drives of the season. Both hit 430-yard tee shots at Kapalua, which is usually the fastest track on Tour. Johnson’s blast came on the 12th hole during the final round, while Swafford’s shot was on the 7th hole in round 3.

4. Satoshi Kodaira had the longest hole-out of the year, a 234-yarder on the opening hole at the Fort Worth Invitational.

5. Kodaira was a sensational one-off, but Ben Silverman led the Tour in hole-outs from off the green. Over 90 rounds, Silverman holed out 25 times. Austin Cook was second with 24.

6. DJ led the Tour with 12 top-10 finishes, including three titles.

7. Johnson also had the lowest scoring average for the year, 68.698. He played a total of 5,072 strokes during his 2017-18 campaign.

8. Rory McIlroy led the Tour in driving distance at 319 yards per drive. McIlroy’s 118 drives over the course of 64 rounds played this year totaled 37,736 yards.

9. While Rory held the edge in tee-box power, Johnson led in strokes gained from tee-to-green, which tends to set up well for other categories (See No. 7 again).

10. Chris Kirk made 12 straight cuts during the season to lead the Tour.

11. Beau Hossler and Steve Wheatcroft led in most consecutive birdies made. Each rang up eight straight at different times last year.
