Spend a long weekend at Casa de Campo (and play Teeth of the Dog!) for less than $2,300

December 20, 2019

Winter is officially upon us, and if you live in an area of the country where temperatures are dropping rapidly right about now, a few days of warm sunshine and swaying palm trees probably sound pretty appealing. And if you’re still looking for the perfect gift to give this holiday season, golf travel is one-size-fits-all, so it’s probably high time to consider booking a long weekend in the Caribbean to cure the winter blues.

Here’s how you can do it at Casa de Campo (a Top 100 Resort!) in the Dominican Republic for under $2,300.

AIRFARE AND LODGING: ~$1,300

One cool thing about the Casa de Campo resort website is the ability to book both your room and your flight in one cost-saving package. I tried booking several itineraries for the same long weekend (three total nights) at the end of February, and here are the prices I found to Punta Cana (PUJ), which is about a 50-minute drive to the Casa de Campo resort:

From JFK (direct flights on JetBlue): $2,288.74
From ATL (direct flights on Delta): $2,840.74
From ORD (direct flights on United): $2,810.74

Remember, the prices above are for both airfare and lodging for two people, so you’ll only be spending about $1,300 per person, depending on where you’re coming from.

And if you still prefer to book your own flights separately, there’s always Kayak.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION: $100

Once you get onsite at Casa de Campo, you’ll receive a golf cart to zip around the resort for the duration of your stay, so the only real car journey you’ll have to worry about is getting to and from the airport. A shared shuttle from Prestige Limousine Service is $50 per person each way.

TOTAL SPEND: $1,300 + $100 = $1,400

GREEN FEES: $636

There are three exceptional courses on offer at Casa de Campo, including the renowned Teeth of the Dog. Tee times aren’t cheap during the high season, but you can play a round at each during your stay, or pick and choose so you can spend time doing other resort activities. For the purpose of this article, we’ll assume you’re golf-crazed and will play each course once — Teeth of the Dog ($250), Dye Fore ($236) and The Links ($150).

TOTAL GREEN FEES: $636

TOTAL SPEND: $1,400 + $636 = $2,036

DINING

As ever, dining is the area where you can really go nuts while on vacation. I love a mindful splurge, but try this budget outline to make sure you don’t totally overspend:

Arrival dinner: $50

Day 1 golf course lunch: $20

Day 1 dinner: $50

Day 2 golf course lunch: $20

Day 2 dinner: $50

Day 3 golf course lunch: $20

Miscellaneous breakfasts and snacks: $50

TOTAL DINING: $260

TOTAL SPEND: $2,036 + $260 = $2,296

And there you have it! Three nights at a Top 100 Resort, three rounds at renowned Caribbean courses and some fabulous tropical memories for under $2,300! Ready to book? Happy travels!
