Jim Furyk confirms ‘brief’ altercation between Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka

October 8, 2018

Did Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson clash following America’s Ryder Cup loss to Europe? Depends who you ask.

Just days after Koepka himself declared that “nothing happened,” U.S. captain Jim Furyk described an incident as very short-lived.

“Whatever altercation started, or what happened, it was very brief. It was very short. Neither one of them really took anything out of it,” Furyk told Golf Channel’s Tim Rosaforte.

“They’re like brothers. Brothers may argue, brothers get into it. But they’re as close as they’ve ever been, and it really had no effect on either one of them.”

But the incident did provide a glimpse at potential disfunction in the U.S. team room. Two of the top five players in the world (who happen to be friends) nearly fighting after a loss is hardly common.

In the interview, which ran on Golf Channel Monday morning, Furyk weighed in with some final thoughts as captain. He asserted that Patrick Reed knew of his potential playing partners, including Tiger Woods, weeks in advance of the event. He also said that he’d take the same 12 players into another Ryder Cup if he could.
