Resort Overview

It is not often a place can lay a genuine claim to being both the world’s most far-out golf destination and its prettiest. Then again, Lofoten Links isn’t a very typical golf destination. There are few places in the world that can match Lofoten’s combination of proper links golf, stunning ocean views and distant mountain vistas. There are no other places in the world that can claim those things AND a regular view of the Northern Lights. Lofoten’s charm is deeply Scandinavian — with on-site “cabins” for rent as opposed to traditional hotel rooms, and an on-site horse farm that doubles as a campsite for more rugged attendees. But it is fully one of one in the world of golf, and for that alone, it’s worth pinning high aboard your bucket list.

Highlights

PLAY

The complexity and variety of Lofoten has to be seen to be believed. But in the meantime, check out the photos (above/below/TK) that show some of what makes the course a deeply desired venue.

EXPERIENCE

Turn your evenings into a front-row ticket to one of nature’s most natural wonders: the Northern Lights, which are available for view at night during certain months of the year.

EAT

A club-owned restaurant and cafe just down the street perfectly encaptures the Viking spirit owed to the club’s tribal lands. The menu — filled with locally sourced Scandinavian classics — has depth and texture far beyond its golf-adjacent origins.

3 things to know

  • Best time to go

August to October, when both the golf course and the Northern Lights are available for regular viewing.
  • Best non-golf amenity

Other than the lights? Probably the Icelandic horseback rides that take place at the horse farm just down the street from the golf course.
  • Insider Tip

Book your trip from May to August and you’ll earn something few other golf destinations in the world can offer: 24-hour access. The never-setting sun during this time of year means the course never closes to the public.
