The Open 2019: Shane Lowry’s winning Srixon equipment at the Open Championship

Shane Lowry cruised to a six-shot win at the Open Championship to claim his first major title. The Cleveland/Srixon staffer used an equipment setup consisting of 12 of the brand’s clubs (and golf ball) at Portrush, including a split iron set consisting of three different Srixon Z Series models that helped him lead the field in greens in regulation (79 percent).

Lowry carries two Z U85 utility irons, with the 20-degree 3-iron bent to 21 degrees to ensure proper yardage gapping at the top of the set. Instead of using a KBS Tour 130X steel shaft in his 2-iron, Lowry prefers the feel of a graphite Mitsubishi Chemical Tensei CK Pro White Hybrid TX for a club he uses almost exclusively off the tee.

The rest of the set consists of two Z 585 long irons (4-5) that feature an undercut cavity — designed to increase forgiveness — and an extremely fast SUP10 stainless steel face for ball speed purposes. In the mid and scoring irons, Lowry uses Z 785, a traditional better-player cavity-back iron boasting a one-piece forged design, minimal offset and a narrow Tour V.T. sole for turf interaction.

Unlike a majority of tour professionals who prefer to carry four wedges, Lowry uses just three (including his Z 785 pitching wedge) on a regular basis. The Cleveland RTX 4 50-degree wedge is bent to 51 degrees while the 58-degree is a more recent addition, replacing the RTX 3 he’d had in the bag for some time.

Lowry’s 34-inch Odyssey Stroke Lab EXO 2-Ball putter, which was added earlier this season at the RBC Heritage, differs slightly from the retail version with a more traditional White Hot insert — as opposed to the microhinge insert — and two black circles on the crown for alignment purposes. The SuperStroke Traxion PistolGT 1.0 has shamrocks dotting the putter grip.
