WATCH: Shane Lowry receives hero’s welcome walking up 18th fairway during Open win
Shane Lowry can now call himself a major champion after winning the 2019 Open Championship on Sunday. But before he sunk his final putt, the 32-year-old Irishman received a hero’s welcome from the fans as he walked up the 18th fairway at Royal Portrush during the final round.
It was an incredible scene. As he walked up the fairway, Lowry extended his arms to take in the overwhelming cheers being showered down on him by the fans. It seems as if it was at this moment that Lowry fully embraced the notion that he would be the Champion Golfer of the Year.
As he continued walking up the fairway, Lowry waved to the fans and shared a special moment with his caddie. What made it even more nuts was the massive number of fans following him down the fairway and racing to get a prime spot in order to witness Lowry sink the final putt.
