Two weeks removed from missing the cut at the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black, Tiger Woods is set to return to the course.
His return comes at the Memorial Tournament — Jack Nicklaus’ event — at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. It will presumably be his final tune-up ahead of the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach in two weeks, and is another chance to tie Sam Snead’s record for wins (82) on the PGA Tour.
Woods highlights a strong field, as usual at Nicklaus’ event. He’ll tee off at 8:26 a.m. alongside Justin Rose and the tournament’s defending champion, Bryson DeChambeau. Rory McIlroy, the betting favorite at 10/1, according to GolfOdds.com, will get his week started at 8:15 a.m. with Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.
Spieth is coming off two top-20 finishes after having none to start his season. He’ll be one to watch at the Memorial, as his game continues to gradually round back into form. The winner could be none of the aforementioned players, though, as there has a been a different winner each of the last nine years. And for many in the field, it will be a crucial final opportunity to tweak any hitches before the U.S. Open.
