Two years after the Americans dominated at Whistling Straits, Team Europe will look to return the favor at Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome, Italy. But that task won’t be easy. Team USA is sending a supremely talented squad of 12, featuring three of the four reigning major champions. Zach Johnson, a two-time major winner and five-time Ryder Cupper, is set to captain the Americans as they look to snap a 30-year losing streak on European soil.
Check out below for a rundown of Team USA’s roster.
Sam Burns
Age: 27 World ranking: 20 Ryder Cup record: N/A (rookie)
Burns’ 2023 wasn’t quite as dynamic as the previous year, with fewer wins, top 10s and top 25s, however, he did win the PGA Tour’s lone match-play event in Austin. After pairing up with Scottie Scheffler at last fall’s Presidents Cup, it appears the duo will reunite in Rome.
Patrick Cantlay
Age: 31 World ranking: 5 Ryder Cup record: 3-0-1
One of the most consistent players in golf, Cantlay racked up 16 top 25s in 21 starts this season. He also had top-15 finishes in three of the four major championships while ranking third on Tour in SG: Total.
Wyndham Clark
Age: 29 World ranking: 10 Ryder Cup record: N/A (rookie)
Clark had a breakout year in 2023, winning twice including his maiden major victory at the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club. In addition to his pair of wins, the 29-year old also finished inside the top 25 in half his starts and missed just three cuts.
Rickie Fowler
Age: 34 World ranking: 25 Ryder Cup record: 3-7-5
Fowler experienced a career renaissance this season, registering eight top-10s and winning for the first time since 2019. After missing the Ryder Cup in 2021, Fowler is back on Team USA for the fifth time.
Brian Harman
Age: 36 World ranking: 9 Ryder Cup record: N/A (rookie)
Harman wasn’t on many pundit’s Ryder Cup radars heading into the summer. That is, until he won the Open Championship in convincing fashion. After his six-shot victory at Hoylake, he all but clinched his spot on Team USA.
Max Homa
Age: 32 World ranking: 7 Ryder Cup record: N/A (rookie)
After years as a middling pro, Homa has now asserted himself as one of the Tour’s top players. With five wins over the past three years, Homa has climbed into the top 10 in the OWGR and qualified for the Ryder Cup team for the first time.
Brooks Koepka
Age: 33 World ranking: 17 Ryder Cup record: 6-5-1
It was long unclear if any LIV golfers would be welcome on the Ryder Cup team, but after Koepka won the PGA Championship (and finished runner-up at the Masters) it was impossible to leave him off the team. He’s never lost a singles match (2-0-1) in his three previous Ryder Cup appearances.
Collin Morikawa
Age: 26 World ranking: 19 Ryder Cup record: 3-0-1
Morikawa didn’t win in 2023, but his strokes-gained numbers were still plenty tidy as he ranked second in SG: Approach and 10th in SG: Total. He’s yet to drop a Ryder Cup match, earning 3.5 at Whistling Straits two years ago.
Xander Schauffele
Age: 29 World ranking: 6 Ryder Cup record: 3-1-0
Schauffele put together yet another solid campaign in 2023 with 11 top 10s and two runner-up finishes. He’s missed just four cuts over the past three seasons.
Scottie Scheffler
Age: 27 World ranking: 1 Ryder Cup record: 2-0-1
The world No. 1 was a ball-striking machine this season, ranking first in SG: Off the tee, SG: Approach, SG: Tee to green and SG: Total. However, thanks to an inconsistent flatstick, he found the winner’s circle just twice.
Jordan Spieth
Age: 30 World ranking: 12 Ryder Cup record: 8-7-3
Spieth didn’t find the winner’s circle in 2023, but he did have seven top 10s and 10 top 25s in 22 starts. He’ll be one of the most experienced Americans on the team with four previous Ryder Cups under his belt.
Justin Thomas
Age: 30 World ranking: 24 Ryder Cup record: 6-2-1
Thomas had the worst season of his career in 2023 with just four top 10s in 21 starts. However, with an excellent record in team competitions, Johnson opted to put faith in Thomas and spent a captain’s pick on him.
