Big names to make (and miss!) the U.S. Open on Monday at Sectional Qualifying

June 4, 2019

U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying wrapped up Monday evening, and plenty of big names made it to Pebble Beach — while others fell short. A massive number of PGA Tour pros took part in qualifiers across the U.S. plus England and Canada in search of 75 spots. Sectional qualifying consists of a grueling 36-hole day that takes places annually two Mondays before the U.S. Open begins, and is part of the uniquely democratic national championship.

This year’s notables to qualify included a former world No. 1 (Luke Donald), a Masters champion (Mike Weir) and former Ryder Cuppers (including Thomas Pieters). But you could also make an All-Star team with the guys who failed to advance through qualifying. Check out some of the relevant names below.
