U.S. Open 2019: Gary Woodland leads Justin Rose by one after 54 holes at Pebble Beach

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Gary Woodland’s lead was cut in half, but he still is out in front after 54 holes of the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.

Woodland shot a two-under 69 in the third round on Saturday and sits at 11-under overall, as he’ll take his one-shot lead over Justin Rose into Sunday’s final round. Rose shot a three-under 68 on Saturday to pick up a stroke on Woodland. They were paired together in the final group on Saturday and will be again on Sunday. Woodland is still in search of his first career major title, while Rose is looking for his second major. He won the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion.

Woodland and Rose will have a nice head start on the rest of the field come Sunday afternoon on the Monterey Peninsula. Behind them is a three-way tie for third between Brooks Koepka (68), Chez Reavie (68) and Louis Oosthuizen (70), all of whom are tied at seven-under. Koepka is still well-positioned to win his second straight major and third straight U.S. Open.

Rory McIlroy (70) sits alone in sixth place at six-under and is five off the lead, Matt Kuchar (70) and Chesson Hadley (70) are both five-under and six back, and Jon Rahm (70) and Henrik Stenson (70) highlight a group of five players at four-under.

Tiger Woods shot an even-par 71 on Saturday and is tied for 27th at even par for the tournament.
