WATCH: Tiger Woods unleashes epic club twirl on 1st hole, dialed in to start Ryder Cup

September 28, 2018

SAINT-QUENTIN-EN-YVELINES, France – Last week, Tiger Woods hadn’t won a golf tournament since 2013. He hadn’t played in a Ryder Cup since 2012. Now? He’s done both.

Just before 9 a.m. local time, Woods strode down from the putting green to the 1st tee in front of Le Golf National’s massive grandstand, walking side by side with partner Patrick Reed. Reed drew boos. Woods drew cheers.

Woods selected a fairway wood off the opening tee and ripped his shot down the left-center. The crowd murmured uncertainly — water runs down the entire left side of the hole — but Woods had no such doubts. He unleashed a signature club twirl, picked up his tee and walked off, projecting confidence and turning the murmurs to roars.

The team of Woods/Reed ended up losing the opening hole, but Woods came back with an incredible shot at No. 2. The long par-3 was playing 220 yards (even longer in the morning chill) and the group’s three other players had missed the green. No matter: Woods stuck it to three feet. Both Europeans made bogey and conceded Woods’s deuce.

Woods added this impressive flop shot at No. 3, sticking it for another gimme birdie. You can follow all of the scoring here.
