WATCH: An emotional Tiger Woods fights tears after winning the Tour Championship, 80th career Tour win

September 24, 2018

Tiger Woods turned back the clock on Sunday at the Tour Championship, shooting a one-over 71 and holding off Billy Horschel and others to win for the first time since 2013.

Woods, like the rest of the world, knew what was on the line, as did the thousands of fans who stormed up the 18th fairway behind the 14-time major champ.

After Woods two-putted for a two-stroke victory on the 72nd hole he talked with NBC’s Steve Sands off the green about what the victory meant to him. Woods’s emotion, for a player who rarely shows it, was apparent.

“I just can’t believe I pulled this off after what this season has gone through,” he said, before pausing, as the crowd erupted. “It’s been tough. I have had a not-so-easy last couple years and I’ve worked my way back. I couldn’t have done it without the help of everyone around me. Some of the players I saw after on the 18th green, some of them knew what I was struggling with and it was really special to see them there. It’s just hard to believe I won the Tour Championship.”
