Tiger’s red sweater Monday evokes iconic outfit from his 1997 Masters win

September 10, 2018

Tiger Woods turned back the clock on Monday at the BMW Championship, both on the course and in terms of his fashion choice.

When Woods showed up to a cold, wet Aronimink for the final round, he was decked out in a bright red Nike sweater. While everyone is used to seeing Tiger in red for the final round, this particular top caught everyone’s attention.

That’s because it looks shockingly similar to the red sweater Woods wore during his first major victory at the 1997 Masters.

Back then, a 21-year-old Tiger dusted the field to capture his first green jacket. His margin a victory was an incredible 12 shots, and the win set off the most captivating career in golf history.

That Masters was a long time ago, and now a 42-year-old Woods is hoping to win on Tour again for the first time since 2013. The chances that it’s the exact same sweater are essentially zero. The 1997 version was quite baggy, keeping with Tiger’s clothing choices at the time. The 2018 version is a much tighter, tailored fit that clings close to his figure.

Woods got off to a hot start in the final round of the BMW, quickly getting within one of the lead. If he somehow ends up winning, there’s little doubt people will be giving some credit to his sweater choice.
