Tiger Woods receives Tour Championship trophy, shows off on Instagram

October 19, 2018

When you haven’t won a professional golf event in over five years, you would be pretty excited too when your trophy came in the mail.

Even someone like Tiger Woods, who has won 80 times on the PGA Tour and 14 major titles, gets pumped about winning for the first time in a long while.

Woods posted a picture on Instagram on Thursday of his Tour Championship trophy that he received in the mail this week for capturing his 80th career PGA Tour victory last month to close out the 2017-18 season.

“Look what just came in the mail today. Thank you to everyone for making number 80 so special,” Woods captioned with the trophy. The Tour Championship trophy is a replica of Bobby Jones’ notorious putter named “Calamity Jane”. Ironically, the Tour Championship is played at the same course where Jones first played golf at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

On one side of the putter, it reads “Tiger Woods 2018 Champion, The Tour Championship, East Lake Golf Club.” On the other side, it reads “Calamity Jane” to signify that the replica of Jones’ famous putter. The putter appeared to arrive to Woods’ home in Florida in a green box.

According to the putter description, it has a 66 degree lie and 8 degree loft. Jones apparently received the original putter almost 100 years ago in 1920. With the putter, Jones captured 13 major titles and completed the Grand Slam in 1930.

Woods is now only two PGA Tour wins away from tying Sam Snead for the most wins of all-time. Woods will be looking to tie and break the record during the 2018-19 season. Let’s also not forget that Woods will be certainly looking for his first major championship in over 10 years since his 2008 U.S. Open victory at Torrey Pines.

While it will not be easy for the 42-year-old Woods, reaching Jack Nicklaus’ all-time record of 18 major titles is definitely something that is still in the back of his mind.
