Thomas Bjorn gets celebratory Ryder Cup tattoo — on his rear end

December 24, 2018

European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn has officially made good on his permanent promise from October. He’s now sporting a tattoo commemorating their recent victory.

In a Twitter video posted by the European Ryder Cup side, Bjorn announced the tattoo to the public: “17 1/2 – 10 1/2” etched beside a silhouette of the trophy. But don’t expect regular viewing of Bjorn’s new mark; it’s located on his rear end.

Close followers of the European team’s dominant October victory saw this coming. The entire team referenced the potential tattoo in their celebratory press conference following the 17.5-10.5 victory. Below is the exchange from the press conference:

Rory McIlroy: There could be a visit to a tattoo parlor coming soon. For Mr. Bjørn

Reporter: On his head?

Justin Rose: Plenty of real estate there. (Laughter).

Then, later on…

Thomas Bjorn: Let me put it this way, it’s going to go on a part that only [Bjorn’s girlfriend] Grace will see. I might have to send them a picture, well, then you’ll all see it as well, I guess. (Laughter) The worst decision I made all week.

Sergio Garcia: No, it was the best.

Ian Poulter: It was clearly the best.

Garcia: Something to fight for, extra.

The video shows Bjorn, 12 weeks after the win, walking into an establishment called Frith Street Tattoo, where he lies facedown on the table as a tattoo artist goes to work on his left cheek. You can see the video below:
