Rain postpones first round of Mayakoba Golf Classic until Friday

Mayakoba Golf Classic

If you were hoping to watch defending champion Matt Kuchar and his fellow PGA Tour stars Jason Day, Viktor Hovland, Keegan Bradley, Tony Finau and Cameron Champ  tackle the Mayakoba Golf Classic’s El Camaleon course on Thursday, unfortunately, Mother Nature had other ideas.

Tee times were scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. ET in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, but not a single player posted a score on Thursday.

Hopes were high that some golf may be played, as the Tour initially postponed tee times by two hours.

Not long afterward, tee times were pushed even farther back, to 12:00 p.m. ET.

One more attempt was made to at least play some golf on Thursday when tee times were pushed back to 2:00 p.m. ET — seven hours later than originally scheduled.

After that, it was time to call it a day — literally. Play was officially postponed until Friday. Like Thursday, the first round is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. ET.
