2018 PGA Championship Live Blog: Live updates from Round 2 at Bellerive

August 10, 2018

The 2018 PGA Championship has arrived at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, and we are following all the action in the second round with our PGA Championship Live Blog.

Rickie Fowler fired a five-under 65 early on Thursday and held the lead for much of the day. But Gary Woodland put together the round of tournament so far in the afternoon, shooting a 64 to take the lead. Woodland went out early and followed it up with a 66 to hold the clubhouse lead at 10 under.

Tiger Woods got off to a rough start on Thursday but bounced back to shoot 70, matching Rory McIlroy’s score. Woods, McIlroy and Justin Thomas begin Round 2 at 2:48 p.m. ET.

You can keep up with all the action on Friday below.

FULL ROUND 2 SCORES | BIGGEST SURPRISE FROM DAY 1

(ALL TIMES ET / REFRESH THE PAGE FOR THE LATEST UPDATES)

6:41: Here’s the official statement on Twitter:

6:34: It’s official, the second round is suspended for the rest of the day. The word is that players will resume their rounds at 8:00 a.m. ET.

6:30: We’re still waiting for official word from the tournament, but this doesn’t sound good:

6:23: Here’s another good way to ride out the weather delay.

6:18: Video update on the weather delay:

6:14: Here’s a good glimpse of the massive crowds following the Tiger/Rory/JT group today at Bellerive:

6:07: TNT pulled Rickie Fowler aside during the delay to talk about his round so far (he’s -2 on the day through 10 holes, -7 for the tournament):

6:05: Here’s the latest news from tournament officials about the weather delay. Looks like they’ll have more to say at 6:30 p.m. ET:

5:48: Here’s a definitive power ranking of best things to eat in the media center during rain delays: 1) Meatballs (rare, but every once in a while a major championship will roll these out for us), 2) Cookies (usually soft-baked), 3) Double fudge brownies, 4) Chicken fingers, 5) Ice cream bars, 6) Taquitos, 7) Egg rolls, 8) Soft pretzels …. 4,567) Nacho chips and watery cheese dip.

5:27: Scenes from the course: just heavy, heavy rain. We’re riding this thing out.

5:14: STATS (courtesy of the TV broadcast): Koepka and Schwartzel’s twin 63s are the first time two players have shot 63 in the same round at a major since 1980. Also, the nine rounds of 65 or better today is a major championship record. And with the afternoon wave still on the course (once they return to the course), that mark might go even lower.

5:02: As we ride out the delay, Rickie Fowler says in a TV interview that he injured his oblique last Saturday, but didn’t want to make a big deal about it. Says he’s taped up, but it oddly might help his swing. “It is tighter, but I’m getting to a better spot that I normally am. There’s no excuses.”

4:57: Weather update: Looks like about a 45-minute delay before golfers get back on the course.

4:55: While we have time to catch our breath (and eat more), let’s take a look at some of the big names who will be missing the cut. Matt Kuchar and Sergio Garcia (+1) need the line to move up one shot. Others have no reason to hang in St. Louis. Alex Noren (+2), Peter Uihlein (+2), John Daly (+3), Patrick Reed (+3), Charley Hoffman (+3), Jason Dufner (+4), Bubba Watson (+8) and Paul Casey (+8).

4:41: Some of you may be wondering, “How does golf media pass the time during a rain delay?” The answer is eating. Lots and lots of eating.

4:36: Oh man, the horn has blown at Bellerive. We have ourselves a weather delay. Players are heading off the course. Be careful out there, everyone. That includes those reading the blog. Safety first.

4:32: Up ahead of Woods, Mickelson is three over and struggling. He misses the green on 9. Cut looks like it’ll be about even par, so he has work to do.

4:28: Woods on 8 takes a driver and lets it fly. It’s smashed, but it trickles into the thick stuff left of the fairway.

4:25: Taking a spin around, Tony Finau had a thrill-ride front nine (7 birdies, one triple, one bogey) but is still +1 for the event. Rickie Fowler is the low man on the course, -6 for the event and -1 for the day.

4:21: Tiger bumps it up and it catches a piece of the cup but stays out. He taps in the 2 footer for a par. On to the 8th, still three under.

4:17: Tiger takes a rip from the bunker, and his ball settles just short of the green. He’ll have a simple uphill pitch from there. Good spot.

4:11: Woods on the tee at the 7th, takes an iron but shoves it into the right fairway bunker. Looks like a decent lie, though.

4:08: Tiger’s putt rolls around the lip and drops! Back break on the bunker shot, nice break on the putt. He saves par and stays three under.

4:05: Woods from the bunker behind the putting surface. Not much green to work with…and it gets hung up in the fringe. He’s unlucky it didn’t take a bounce forward. But it looks like about 15 feet left for a par save.

4:02: Tiger hits a low STINGER iron off the tee on the tough par-3 6th, but it settles over the green. He’ll have to scramble here for a par.

3:57: BOOM. Woods cans his birdie to move to three under. That’s three birdies in four holes, folks.

3:52: Tiger tosses in his approach to 10 feet. Will have a great look for birdie.

3:45: Tiger smokes his drive down the fairway on no. 5. All good in the Woods camp so far.

3:42: Guys on the course still — Fowler (-5), Pat Perez (-5), Billy Horschel (-4), Jason Day (-4)

3:40: Woods chips it close, runs it by the hole and cleans up his par from a foot away. 2 under on the day.

3:32: Tiger’s drive was right on the rope line. Not the worst line in the world, but, you know, fairway is nicer. He smoked his 4-iron from here to the front edge of the green. Great shot.

3:28: While you’re here, watch this new show from GOLF.com: The Drop Zone

3:23: Woods pures his birdie putt into the center of the cup. Now two under for the championship.

3:18: On the par-3 132-yard 3rd hole, Tiger tosses in a dart to five feet. Will have that for two straight birds. Meanwhile, not much else happening with the leaderboard. Fowler remains at five under, just as he started.

3:13: Tiger tossed in a great approach into the 2nd green and cashed the 14-foot birdie putt. 1 under for the week.

3:08: This is Ben Kern. Need him on the weekend. Also, Tony Finau promptly triple bogeyed the 6th hole.

3:05: Ben Kern birdies his last hole to shoot 69 and sit at even for the event. Hoping he makes the cut! Tiger is in the fairway with another iron off the tee.

3:00: Tony Finau has birdied all five of his holes to start today. Is that good? Meanwhile, Tiger makes his par.

2:56: Woods fans his approach just a touch, finds the green but will have 30 feet left for birdie.

2:52: Alright, the man you’ve been waiting to hear about. Tiger Woods (!!) hits the fairway on the first.

2:41: Who has that afternoon charge in them? Jason Day begins his afternoon with a par on the first. He’s in a good spot at three under.

2:32: Tricky thing about the afternoon times is that these soft greens tend to get a bit stomped down by players throughout the day. Greens might not roll as true as players hope.

2:25: It’s gotta be tough just starting your round now; it means looking UP on the leaderboard. The top 12 players have already finished their second rounds.

2:22: For those of you on “low club pro” watch, Texan Ben Kern is currently low man. He’s +1 and will need a bit of good fortune to make the cut.

2:20: Fowler bogeys the first. Not the start he wanted…but hey, Gary Woodland bogeyed the first Thursday.

2:17: Thomas Pieters (BOMBER) joins the names near the top of the leaderboard at seven under.

2:15: Fowler launched his approach long but makes a great pitch up to the hole. Will have a short par clean up from there.

2:09: Charl Schwartzel misses his chance at 62…but he makes a 4-footer for 63, which is a record folks. 63s don’t come around often…but they are today.

2:06: Rickie Fowler tees off five shots back. Scoring conditions are RIPE today. Course average is under par.

2:00: This leaderboard is…TASTY! Tiger, Fowler, JT, Rory all getting ready to go soon. HERE WE GO.

1:56: Just wanted to add some fun flavor to the blog. Here’s Andre Iguodala staying hydrated.

1:52: Some real quality golf coming from the Rahm, Spieth, Rose group. Combined eight under par today. Those will be the guys to watch early Saturday.

1:47: Alright next up on 62 watch is Charl Schwartzel! 7 under through 16 and playing a par 5.

1:43: Kisner bogeys the 9th and Gary Woodland makes par. Woodland -10, Kisner -9, Koepka -8, DJ -7. Might be the last two tee times tomorrow.

1:41: Rahm makes par! That was gutty stuff to stay at five under. Pumps his fist as it dropped.

1:39: Top of the leaderboard taking shape. Koepka in the house at eight under. DJ one back at seven under. Saturday gonna be fun.

1:33: Jon Rahm stepped on his ball (in the rough) on the par-5 8th. That’s a penalty, folks! He wasn’t thrilled that it wasn’t marked by a course marshal. It was just a bit off the fairway.

1:30: The big hitters are jumping to the top of the leaderboard (except Kisner…). Woodland, Koepka, and DJ make three of the top four.

1:25: Woodland also birdies 8 to tie Kisner at 10 under. He’s got one hole let to close out a spectacular 36-hole stretch.

1:24: Koepka birdies the par-5 8th, and he’s now eight under total and in third.

1:19: Stone is in with a 68 but he’s six under for the week and T5. Kuchar finishes one over for the week and likely to miss the cut. Bubba Watson shoots 78 and will absolutely miss the cut.

1:15: Dustin Johnson in with a 66. He’s seven under and T3 right now, three off the lead.

1:11: Zach Johnson is another guy trying to lock down a Ryder Cup spot. He’s six under for the tournament and T5 right now.

1:07: Kevin Kisner making a run at a Ryder Cup spot. He could auto qualify with a good week at the PGA or put himself in the hunt for a captain’s pick. After a six-under opening nine he birdies 7 and is 10 under and the solo leader.

1:04: Andrew Landry is going low early too. He’s six under through 11, and three under for the tournament. Currently T17.

1:02: Lots of guys at six under right now. Stone, Scott, Schwartzel, ZJ. And lots more guys to tee off in the next two hours. Could be a handful of 64s today.

12:56: GOLF mag cover boys Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka now tied at seven under. Both two back of the leaders.

12:53: Another birdie for Adam Scott and he’s six under. One to play. He hasn’t made a bogey today.

12:52: Jordan Spieth birdies 5 to get to two under. Another birdie coming in and he will have a chance to make a little run on Saturday.

12:50: Woodland and Kisner still on top at nine under with four to play. Koepka is seven under with three left.

12:47: Bubba Watson trending downward while Adam Scott is cruising. He’s five under on the day with two remaining and five under for the tournament.

12:45: Bubba Watson is SEVEN over today with just a few holes to play. He’s heading home.

12:40: Charl Schwartzel is storming up the leaderboard now. He’s six under through 13 and six under for the week. Tied for fourth right now.

12:33: Kisner now jumps back into a tie for the lead. He’s nine under along with Woodland. Both through 13 holes.

12:26: DJ misses a birdie chance that would have been fourth straight. Settles for par.

12:21: Dustin Johnson has made three straight birdies and he’s now five under with four to play. T5

12:15: That’s now back-to-back birdies for Rose, who gets to five under for the week and is five back. Rahm also made birdie to get to four under. Spieth made par on the 2nd.

12:13: Whoa! Ted Potter Jr just holed out for eagle on 14 to get to five under. He’s one under for the tournament.

12:11: Gary Woodland makes it back-to-back birdies on 2 and 3 and he’s now the solo leader at 10 under. Four under through the day.

12:08: Rose birdies the 2nd and he’s to four under now. Spieth and Rahm make pars on 2.

12:06: Projected (early) cut is even par.

12:01: Brooks Koepka is on fire. Makes the turn in three under on the day and then birdies three straight to begin his second nine (the front) and is now seven under and in solo second.

11:55: Woodland and Kisner both still tied at nine under through 11 holes.

11:49: Rahm just misses his birdie try on 1. He’s run a lot of putts close today. Par for him Rose pars, too. Spieth lips his birdie try. He stays at one under.

11:45: Jordan Spieth sticks it on the 1st hole, his 10th of the day, and he’ll have a look at birdie to get to two under.

11:37: Some guys are really making moves today. Kisner at the top at nine under still, Woodland at eight under and Stone and Koepka at six.

11:34: Rose has a tester left for par on 18, while Rahm and Spieth have looks for birdie.

11:32: Brooks Koepka just birdied No. 1 to get to -4 on the day, and -5 for the tournament — only four shots back of the lead.

11:25: My goodness, Kevin Kisner is a man on fire. He’s made six birdies on his front nine to make the turn in 29 strokes. Currently at -9 for the tournament and one shot clear of Gary Woodland.

11:23: Rose and Spieth find the fairway.

11:18: No. 18 is a 457-yard par 4. Dogleg left. Rahm is first to play, and he finds the fairway bunker on the right.

11:17: Rahm drains his first birdie of the day on No. 17 to get to -3 for the tournament. Jordan converts his par putt (wow) and Rose makes his birdie to get back to -4 for the tournament.

11:11: Back to our featured group. Jordan is in trouble on the par-5 17th after hitting it into the water, but he almost holes his fourth shot to set up a potentially epic par from inside of five feet.

11:08: Kisner and Woodland are three shots clear of the field.

11:07: Gary Woodland just made a rare eagle on No. 17 to get to two under par on the day and eight under par for the tournament. He’s a co-leader now with Kisner, who just made another birdie to get to five under on the day.

11:05: Add Brooks Koepka to the list of players making a statement this morning. He’s three under through his first eight holes, four shots back of the lead.

10:58: Ah, finally a birdie for Jordan! Brings him to -1 for the tournament. Pars for Rose and Rahm.

10:50: Our trio is now playing their second par 3 of the day, the 224-yard 16th. All three find the green and will have nice looks at birdie.

10:48: Adam Scott is putting a quietly excellent round together. He’s four under at the turn, and only three shots behind Kisner.

10:46: Going to be at least one dropped shot for Justin Rose on 15 after a poor chip. Jordan Spieth’s birdie attempt comes up about a foot short and he is visibly frustrated. Rahm drains his par save. Rose converts for bogey, so he drops to -3 — four back of Kisner’s lead.

10:41: Well folks, Kevin Kisner is your new outright leader. He’s four under par though six holes today, now at -7 for the tournament.

10:40: Jon Rahm, meanwhile, finds the right greenside bunker from the left rough, and Justin Rose overshoots the green, going long right. Who would have though Jordan would be closest to the pin after where his tee shot ended up?

10:36: Jordan just hit a magical, Tigeresque shot from the woods to about 10 feet. He went from deep trouble to birdie opportunity. That was cool.

10:33: Hot round of the day thus far belongs to Englishman Matt Wallace, who is making the turn at -4 on the day, which brings him to -3 for the tournament.

10:30: Rose hits a beautiful drive into the center of the fairway, but Spieth and Rahm lose their drives way to the left.

10:27: Tough par 4 now. No. 15 is 499 yards long. Need to hit it in the fairway to really have a chance.

10:26: Justin Rose converts his first birdie of the day to get to -4, only two shots back of the lead. Rahm and Spieth miss and settle for pars.

10:21: Our featured group, meanwhile, has three nice looks at birdie on No. 14.

10:19: Gary Woodland just bogeyed No. 14, so there’s now a three-way tie for the lead at -6: Woodland, Kisner and South Africa’s Brandon Stone.

10:15: Molinari just birdied No. 14 — his third birdie in five holes — to get to -5 for the tournament. Only two back of the lead!

10:14: No. 144 is a 422-yard par 4, and Spieth hammers a fairway wood into the fairway. He’s swinging very well today. Rahm opts to go with driver and finds the right-side fairway. Rose also goes with driver and hits one into the center of the fairway.

10:11: Welp, no birdie conversions for our trio, so we move on to No. 14.

10:08: Hey, watch out — British Open champ Francesco Molinari is having a nice start today. He’s two under through four holes to get to -4 — only three shots back of the lead.

10:06: Kevin Kisner has birdied three of his first four holes to get to -6 for the tournament — one shot back of Woodland’s lead.

10:05: A bogey for DJ on No. 15 drops him to -2 for the tournament.

10:04: No. 13 is a 172-yard par 3 that requires a full carry over a ravine. All three players are safely on the green, but Rahm has the best look at birdie.

9:58: Justin Rose hits a good bunker shot to give himself a decent look at birdie from the fringe, but he ends up settling for par. Rahm also misses his birdie attempt. Spieth gave it a nice run but alas, must also settle for par. On to No. 13.

9:53: Adam Scott is two under through five holes today, currently five shots back of Woodland’s lead

9:50: No. 12 is a 459-yard par 4. Spieth and Rahm find the fairway but Rose ends up in the fairway bunker.

9:46: Jordan is the only member of this featured trio to convert his birdie putt, so he heads to No. 12 at even par for the tournament.

9:43: Matt Kuchar is quietly making his way up the leaderboard at the moment. He’s three under par through his first five holes today, now at -2 for the tournament.

9:41: Spieth, Rose and Rahm all hit nice wedges to set up good birdie opportunities on No. 11.

9:39: Leaderboard update: Gary Woodland just birdied No. 11 (his second hole) to get to -7, two shots clear of Rickie Fowler, Kevin Kisner and Brandon Stone. Kisner birdied his first two holes today, while Stone just birdied the par-3 16th.

9:36: All three players opt to lay up, and find the fairway with irons off the tee.

9:34: No. 11 is a driveable par 4, playing 298 today — but it’s super dangerous, with water in front of the green on the right side. It was the site of Tiger’s double bogey yesterday, after he hit it in the water.

9:31: Rose comes up just short on his birdie attempt, while Rahm and Spieth have testers left for par. And they make them.

9:26: Kevin Kisner birdied his first hole (No. 10) to get to -4 for the tournament.

9:24: Justin Rose is the only one to find the green on No. 1, as Spieth and Rahm come up short. Tournament leader Gary Woodland is even par through his first hole today to remain -6.

9:21: Jon Rahm’s ball hit a spectator’s head, and actually got a favorable bounce into the first cut. The man is being tended to by medics but wished Rahm well on his round.

9:18: An already very sweaty Jon Rahm loses his drive to the right-side rough, and Rose finds the fairway. We’re off!

9:14: Here comes Jordan off of No. 10. It’s a great start, in the fairway with the driver.

9:06: One of this morning’s featured groups of Jordan Spieth (+1), Justin Rose (-3) and Jon Rahm (-2) tees off at 9:12. Spieth was grinding on the range until late last evening. The other featured group of DJ (-3), Bubba (E) and Adam Scott (-1) is already through the second hole.

8:59: Dustin Johnson is currently even through his first hole today, so he remains at -3 — three shots back of leader Gary Woodland.

8:57: Good morning! Jess Marksbury here. It’s a lovely, sunny day in St. Louis, and I’m looking forward to following the early action at Bellerive.
