U.S. Open 2019: Patrick Reed laughs off ‘comical’ club snap
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Patrick Reed showed no remorse for his dramatic U.S. Open club snap after his third round at Pebble Beach, calling it ‘comical’ to rewatch.
Golf Channel’s Will Gray spoke with Reed after his third round on Saturday and asked him about Friday’s incident, when Reed snapped a wedge after stubbing a chip on 18.
“To me, it’s no big deal,” Reed told Gray. “It was comical after watching it afterwards. But it wasn’t comical having to go through hitting poor wedge shot after poor wedge shot, especially when I pride myself on my short game and being able to get up and down.”

Reed made reference to others who have lost their temper, defending his actions by pointing out that he did no damage to the golf course itself.
“You have Sergio with what he did on the greens [in Saudi Arabia, in this meltdown]. I’ve seen multiple guys tear up golf courses, slam clubs. I mean, Rory threw his club in the water on 8 at Doral. You had Lucas Bjerregaard send his driver in the water here. It happens.”
Reed birdied his final two holes on Saturday to post a one-over 72. You can read the complete report from Gray here.
