SAINT-QUENTIN-EN-YVELINES, France – One of the main storylines to begin the Ryder Cup surrounded Jordan Spieth. How would the Golden Child respond to a season of less-than-stellar form?
Well, missing the Tour Championship appears to be all the reset that Spieth needed. The 25-year-old started hot during his fourball match Friday morning, essentially carrying teammate Justin Thomas to an early lead over Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton.
Spieth tossed in a smooth wedge to a couple feet on the first hole, making the birdie to send the U.S. 1 up.

Spieth made par on the 2nd hole, birdie on the par-5 3rd and then added this long birdie putt on the 5th. When it dropped, the Americans were 2 up and running away.

That wasn’t all, though. Spieth also made birdie on 6 to halve the hole. Then, some more magic on the 7th to push the U.S. to 3 up. Spieth’s score was used on the first seven holes for his pairing. In case you weren’t sure, that’s very good. It means he’s beating the Hatton-Casey pairing on his own ball.
