Masters 2019: Tiger Woods nearly upended by Masters security on 14th hole

April 12, 2019

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tiger Woods’s Masters charge was momentarily stalled by a lightning delay — and an hour later by a security guard.

Woods was four under through 14 holes while playing his second round of the Masters on Friday at Augusta National Golf Club when he hooked his tee shot into the trees on the par-4 14th hole. Security guards and Masters gallery guards moved the crowd out of the way so Woods could have a line to the green, and Woods found a gap in the trees and unleashed an approach from 168 yards.

As the giddy crowd rushed closer to the action as soon as Woods finished his swing — he was four off the lead at the time and charging — security guards hustled into position to keep the patrons at bay. That’s when a security guard slipped on the rain-soaked terrain and slid under Woods, clipping the 14-time major champion’s right leg.

Woods leaped and jumped gingerly as he walked away, but he seemed to be unscathed. As you can see in the video below, there wasn’t much contact made with his leg.

Woods his his approach to 28 feet and then made the birdie putt to get to five under overall and two off the lead. He seems to be walking fine after the incident, but it was quite the scare for the 43-year-old with an injury plagued past.
