Jordan Spieth will have a different caddie on the bag this week at the WGC-Mexico Championship: his father.
Shawn Spieth will caddie for his son as Jordan’s normal caddie, Michael Greller, is home with his family after the passing of his father, John Greller. This was first reported on site by Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis.
Spieth and Greller have been together for the majority of Spieth’s career, winning three majors together, two of them during a historic 2015 season. Spieth won five times that year, including the Masters and the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay, where Greller was once a local caddie.
Among the many people who poured out support for Greller on Twitter was Spieth’s mom, Christine.
Heavy heart for Michael and his family. Bear was a great father, husband, and grandfather. Heaven gained another angel! https://t.co/CHOIQwctIO

Spieth will tee off Thursday at 12:51 ET, playing alongside Russell Knox and Satoshi Kodaira.
